How to permanently dispose of our most radioactive waste is a complex issue, and highly emotive. Therefore, it is vital that we have an informed public discussion before each decision is made, and ensure there is full accountability and transparency for all the decisions that will have to be made.
GDFWatch is ‘pro-geological disposal’, for all the reasons set out across this website. However, while broadly supporting the Government’s approach to geological disposal, we want to ensure that this and future Governments fulfil the commitments they are making — and that affected communities and public safety really are at the centre of decision-making.
We are a not-for-profit citizen organisation, founded by people from different backgrounds who have stumbled across this issue from different directions. There are very similar concerns and questions when first learning of the issue, but what we have found out has convinced us that there is an overwhelming ethical, environmental and economic case in favour of geological disposal — we just want to make sure it’s done in the right way!
GDFWatch is here to help individuals and communities understand the issues, offer trusted impartial advice and opinion, and keep all those responsible for delivering geological disposal on their toes and to their promises.
